2012 Dry Stone Walling Courses in the Cotswolds
Why not learn a traditional rural skill whilst staying in one of our Cotswold holiday cottages? Enrol on a 2 day dry stone walling course run by the Cotswolds Conservation Board.
Dry stone walls are not unique to the Cotswolds but they are a distinctive feature, the oolitic Cotswold limestone divides fields and lines the roadside in the upland areas of the Cotswolds.
During the spring and summer months, 2 day dry stone walling courses are held at a range of locations in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Led by qualified walling instructors, the courses are designed for both beginners wishing to get a taste of walling and improvers wishing to improve their skills.
Beginners' courses cover: the importance of dry stone walls in the Cotswolds, dismantling stone walls and sorting stone, laying foundations, using batter frames and laying courses, through stones and the laying of copestones.
The following dry stone walling courses are being held this year:
- 14th & 15th April - Beginners at Lansdown, Bath. Cost £99
- 5th & 6th May - Beginners at Long Compton. Cost £99
- 26th & 27th May - Beginners at Naunton. Cost £99
- 9th & 10th June - Beginners at Tetbury. Cost £99
- 14th & 15th July - Intermediate at Coates, Cirencester. Cost £99
- 28th & 29th July - Beginners at Lansdown. Cost £99
- 4th & 5th August - Beginners at Long Compton. Cost £99
- 25th & 26th August - Beginners at Crickley Hill, near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire - cost £99
- 22nd & 23rd September - Beginners at Naunton - cost £99
- 13th & 14th October - Intermediate at Coates, Cirencester. Cost £99
